H311 motherboard, CPU and RAM combo

Set up your combo

Your combo was fully tested before it shipped. Repeat the quick test below (about 10 minutes) before you build it into your case.

Start here Where everything plugs in

Keep this picture open while you set up or troubleshoot. Tap or click it to zoom in.

Top view of the H311 motherboard with numbered connectors: 1 is the 24-pin power connector at the left edge, 2 is the 8-pin CPU power connector at the bottom center, below the CPU socket, 3 is the front panel header at the top left, 4 SATA ports, 5 M.2 slot, 6 front panel USB 3.0 header, 7 other headers, 8 DDR4 memory slots

10-minute test, outside the case

  1. Place the combo on top of its shipping box, not on the anti-static bag or pink foam. Keep it outside the computer case. Any problem is much easier to find this way.
  2. Connect your power supply’s 24-pin and 8-pin CPU cables to the motherboard (points 1 and 2 on the picture; the 8-pin connector is at the bottom center, below the CPU socket). A new or used working power supply is fine.
  3. Connect the keyboard, mouse and monitor cable to the back of the motherboard. Leave the power cable unplugged for now.
  4. Connect only the power button wire from your case to the front panel header near the top-left corner of the board (point 3), on the red pins. Leave the reset, HDD LED and power LED wires unplugged for this test, because they can cause problems. No case yet? You can also turn the combo on by touching the metal tip of a screwdriver across both red power button pins for about a second.
  5. Plug the power cable into the power supply, then press the case power button (or touch the two red pins with a screwdriver).
  6. If a picture appears on your monitor, the combo works. You can now install it in your case.

Front panel header pins

Pin colors on the front panel header (point 3). The empty spot (a missing pin) is at the left end of the bottom row when the header is at the top-left of the board. For the test, connect only the black power button pins; use the rest when you build the PC in its case.

  • Red Power button
  • Blue Reset button
  • Green Power LED (positive + wire to the pin farthest from the empty spot)
  • Yellow HDD LED (positive + wire to the pin farthest from the empty spot)

If an LED does not light, flip its plug around. This is harmless.

If something goes wrong

The combo does not power on
  • The most common cause is a defective power supply. If you have another one, test with it, even if the first one is brand new.
  • Check that the 24-pin and 8-pin CPU cables are pushed in all the way. The 8-pin goes to the CPU socket, not the graphics card.
  • Check that the case power button wire is on the red power button pins of the front panel header.
It powers on, but there is no picture on the monitor

The most common cause is the RAM. Turn the power off and unplug the power cable, then pull both RAM sticks out and firmly reinstall them. This board uses DDR4 memory. Push down evenly until the clips on both ends click into place. Try the other RAM slot if you still have no picture.

“Not compatible with Windows 11” message

A fresh install of Windows 11 is needed. Tap the Delete key at startup to enter the BIOS, set the first boot device to your UEFI Windows 11 install drive, save the changes and reboot to begin the full install.
